I don’t know about you, but sunflowers are some of my favorite flowers. For one, I like sunflower seeds on my salads for one, but they’re also so beautiful. Although I have yet to do it, I would love to take family photos in a field of sunflowers one year. There’s just something about a sunflower field that makes me so happy. So, I couldn’t help myself when it came to whipping up this sunflower free crochet pattern. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
As a note: I used acrylic yarn for this. If you are planning to make this as a coaster for HOT beverages, you may want to consider using cotton yarn to avoid the possibility of the acrylic yarn melting.
What you need to know:
Hook Size: 4.5 mm
I Love This Yarn Solids – Brown
I Love This Yarn Solids – Sungold
Terms & Stitches:
Ch – Chain
Hdc – Half Double Crochet
MC – Magic Circle
Sc – Single Crochet
Sl st – Slip Stitch
With brown, MC.
Round 1: 6 sc in MC. (6)
Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around. (12)
Round 3: 1 sc in the next stitch. 2 sc in the next stitch. Repeat around. (18)
Round 4: 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches. 2 sc in the next stitch. Repeat around. (24)
Round 5: With gold, sl st into next stitch. *Chain 6. Sc in 2nd chain from hook. Hdc in each of the next 4 chains. Sl st back into the same stitch. Sl st into next stitch. * Repeat between *s 22 more times. Chain 6. Sc in 2nd chain from hook. Hdc in each of the next 4 chains. Sl st back into the same stitch. Sl st into the very first stitch of the round to complete.
Fasten off and weave ends. You will have 24 total petals on your sunflower.
